Caring Community | Drawing Fans with Love · Walking with Stars

On May 24, 2025, the “Accompanying the Stars, From Reading to Lacquer Fan Art” public art workshop was held with warmth at the Children's Library – Star Studio of the Guangzhou Conghua Library. Co-hosted by the Guangzhou Conghua Library, the Guangzhou Public Benefit Promotion Association of Asian Business, and the Guangdong Province CIEO Education Foundation, the event brought together over forty student volunteers, parent and teacher representatives from the Canadian International School of Guangzhou (CIS-GZ) and Caeyu International School of Foshan (CIS-FS), along with university volunteers from Conghua, Guangzhou. Partnered with more than ten “Star Families,” they built bridges of empathy through the shared language of art.

A Fan, A World;
A Stroke, A Companion
Using the heritage lacquer fan as a creative medium, this workshop wove together traditional craftsmanship and life education. Children experienced the true meaning of “accompaniment” as they painted, while the Star children were encouraged to express themselves in an atmosphere of safety and acceptance.
The event opened with an introduction by Ms. Liu Jingwen, Project Lead of Star Studio, setting a warm, inclusive tone. These remarks were followed by speeches from Mr. Qiu Yue, Director of the Conghua Library, and Ms. Wang Aijie, Vice Chair of the CIEO Education Foundation, each affirming their commitment to public-welfare collaboration and shared responsibility.

Next, Ms. Zhang, Guixiang, a recognized inheritor of the lacquer-fan craft, led an interactive demonstration. Supported by university volunteers and CIS student partners, each Star child teamed with a volunteer to create a unique “little lacquer fan.” With lacquer as brush and water as paint, every fan became its own universe: children conveyed love through color and warmth through companionship.

Rooting “Education Is Love”
in Action
Canadian International Education Organization(CIEO)'s guiding philosophy—“Education Is Love”—came vividly to life. This workshop was more than an art lesson; it was a profound exercise in life education and empathy. Many parents movedly shared, “Our children not only learned a craft today but also discovered how to respect, listen to, and accompany others.”
CIS-GZ and CIS-FS student volunteers built genuine connections with the Star children through smiles and patience. In every brushstroke and every gesture, they became ambassadors of love.

United Effort, Lasting Impact
The success of this event owed much to the meticulous planning of the Guangzhou Public Benefit Promotion Association of Asian Business, the Guangzhou Conghua Library team, and the university volunteers, as well as the strong support of CIEO’s international schools. From concept design and materials preparation to volunteer coordination and on-site logistics, every contributor poured heart and soul into the day. This spirit of “building together” created the warm, seamless experience we all enjoyed.
In the closing ceremony, certificates of honor were presented to student volunteers by Mr. Qiu, Yue (Director, Guangzhou Conghua Library), Mr. Liu, Zhaoming (President, Guangzhou Public Benefit Promotion Association of Asian Business), Ms. Wang, Aijie (Vice Chair, CIEO Education Foundation), and Mr. Huang, Renwen (Secretary-General). Every Star child received a gift of love. We believe this was not merely a public-welfare art event but a genuine human connection—and the seed of hope for many future collaboration projects.
