Next, let’s look back at the warm and creative moments from Session One:
This Thursday, the CIS cafeteria quietly transformed into a Christmas Craft Workshop, adorned with warm lighting and festive decorations.

CIS parents and their invited guests gathered together to experience baking and crafting in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, adding a special sense of ceremony to the winter season.
CIS pastry chef May andMaple Leaf Café barista Cherry guided everyone step by step through the process of making gingerbread houses and crafting with coffee grounds, turning professional techniques into a fun and engaging experience for all.

The manager of CIS Maple Café, after returning from studying in the UK, has focused on the art of coffee and desserts. With expertise and passion, they deliver a high-quality and delightful experience for every guest.
May
CIS pastry chef, with over 8 years of experience in baking and product development, has worked on product creation for several renowned bakery and beverage chains and also served as a senior pastry supervisor at a luxury hotel. Now, she channels her expertise and passion into creating daily desserts at CIS, providing students and staff with a thoughtful and delicious experience.
During the gingerbread house-making session, participants focused intently on every step—from assembling and icing to decorating. Colorful candies, delicate frosting lines, and various small ornaments brought each gingerbread house to life, creating unique stories and ideas, like miniature Christmas worlds.
Amidst the busy pace of daily life, the act of piecing together cookies slowed everything down, as parents secretly “hid” their wishes for family and children into their creations.
On the other side of the room, what seemed like ordinary coffee grounds transformed into charming Christmas trees and wreaths through kneading, shaping, and decorating. Simple materials were given new life, adding to the fun of the craft while sparking conversations about environmental sustainability and resource recycling.
This hands-on experience also connected with the kids' UOI project on sustainable development and environmental awareness, allowing parents to engage with the learning themes in a new way.
Whether CIS parents or first-time visitors to campus, everyone quickly became familiar with each other through crafting and conversation. The atmosphere of gathering around a table, chatting while working, made the winter afternoon feel especially soft and relaxed.
Laughter, discussions, and the smells of baking and coffee intertwined, giving families a chance to experience the open, warm, and vibrant atmosphere of the CIS community up close. For CIS, parents are not only supporters of their children’s learning but also important members of the learning community.
Completed gingerbread houses, imaginative coffee grounds creations, and the natural exchanges and connections that occurred during the event collectively created unforgettable holiday memories for this winter. What touches us the most is often not the elaborate arrangements but the simple, fun, and creative time spent together.
