Academic Excellence | Secondary School Expedition: Exploring Lingnan, Embracing Nature, Taking on Challenges

This week, CISFoshan organized a field trip for students in Grades 6–11. Students visited the Nanhai Museum and Xiqiao Mountain, exploring local history, nature, and intangible cultural heritage through hands-on learning.

From exploring museum collections and learning about local culture to experiencing nature and taking on outdoor challenges, students applied what they had learned in the classroom while developing skills in observation, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.

At the Nanhai Museum, students explored the history of the Lingnan region through exhibitions and collections, gaining a deeper understanding of its culture, traditions, and way of life.

The powerful drumbeats and lively lion dance brought intangible cultural heritage to life. For CIS students from different countries and cultural backgrounds, it was not only an opportunity to experience Lingnan traditions but also a meaningful way to deepen their understanding of Chinese local culture and build cross-cultural awareness.

Through close observation and firsthand experiences, students experienced the lasting vitality of traditional culture while gaining a deeper understanding of the city where they study and live.

At Xiqiao Mountain, students took part in a series of outdoor challenge activities, including high ropes, suspension bridges, balance beams, and zip lines.

From planning their routes to overcoming challenges step by step, students strengthened their focus and confidence while learning the value of trust and teamwork through the support of their classmates.

Throughout the activities, students developed resilience and determination while gaining a deeper appreciation for cooperation, encouragement, and teamwork.

The mountain hike offered another meaningful learning experience. As students walked along the trails of Xiqiao Mountain, teachers encouraged them to observe the natural surroundings, share their ideas, and discuss the relationship between nature and everyday life.

In the relaxed outdoor environment, students deepened their understanding of nature while enjoying conversations with teachers and classmates, helping them unwind after a busy examination period.
