Academic Excellence | CIS ASA: Discovering the Power of Holistic Education Through After-School Activities
This week, CIS successfully concluded its semester-end ASA Showcase series.
From open classroom showcases in ECE to orchestra, martial arts, dance, and drama performances presented by Elementary and Secondary students, learners of all ages shared their achievements and growth from a semester of exploration and learning.
In addition to the performances, student hosts were also a highlight of the event. Using both Chinese and English, they confidently guided the audience through each exciting performance.

CIS Northern Lights Orchestra:
The Power of Music in Collaboration
The CIS Northern Lights Orchestra opened the showcase with a series of musical performances.
From younger students who had only recently begun learning their instruments to more experienced performers, students of different ages came together on one stage, demonstrating a semester of progress in rhythm, technique, and collaboration.

Chinese Kung Fu:
Experiencing Chinese Culture
Through Movement
Students from the Chinese Kung Fu ASA presented two performances: Flag Dance Youth,Martial Glory and Heroines.
Through powerful movements and disciplined routines, students demonstrated focus, self-discipline, coordination, and confidence developed through martial arts training, while sharing the beauty of Chinese culture with the audience.

Dance:
Confidence in Every Movement
The Dance ASA brought a variety of performances, including the Chinese dance Loulan Dance, the contemporary dance AI Era, and the jazz dance Champion.
Students Through graceful choreography, energetic rhythms, and expressive movements, students showcased their confidence and individuality on stage.

Drama:
Bringing a Classic
Chinese Story to Life in English
As the finale of the showcase, Drama ASA students performed an English adaptation inspired by The Garden Scene from Mulan.
The story focused on Mulan’s life before joining the army in place of her father, capturing her reflections on the future and her search for inner courage.

Creative Media:
Telling Learning
Stories Through Film
As part of the ASA Showcase, Secondary students produced and edited short videos based on courses such as Football, AI, Canva Design, and Fashion Design.
Through media production, students not only showcased what they had learned, but also developed their creativity and digital communication skills.
Under the guidance of Ms. Peggy, G10 students Ares, Tayler, and Tuanna completed the filming and editing of the videos. Through this creative media project, they not only showcased their learning outcomes from various ASA programmes but also developed their skills in creative expression, digital media production, and project collaboration.

The ECE ASA programme includes Football, Basketball, Roller Skating, Taekwondo, Yoga, STEAM, Art, and Loose Parts Exploration.These experiences support children's physical development, creativity, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving skills through hands-on exploration and play.
During the ECE ASA Open Classroom, parents were invited to observe their children learning in action.
What parents witnessed was more than a showcase—it was a reflection of how children build confidence, develop interests, and grow through exploration, collaboration, and self-expression.
