G7-G10
Diverse Options
for Academic Pathways
The secondary school pathways seminar was led by the CIS Curriculum Director, Head of School, and Head of Creative Design Academy, who provided parents with an in-depth analysis of CIS's three primary academic pathways from various perspectives.

Head of School:Nathan Gray
Flexible Choices with
CIS's Three Academic Pathways
Nathan provided parents with a comprehensive analysis of the three academic pathways offered at CIS for secondary school students, highlighting the distinct features of each pathway.
Alberta Secondary Curriculum:
Covers Grades 7 to 12, suitable for students seeking a globally recognized diploma. With 6-8 courses, it provides a solid academic foundation and comprehensive subject support, preparing students for university applications.
British Secondary Curriculum:
Designed for students planning to apply to universities in the UK or other Commonwealth countries. Students build a foundation through the IGCSE curriculum in Grade 9 and transition to A-Level courses in Grades 11-12.
CIS Creative Design Academy:
Combines the practical focus of BTEC with the academic depth of A-Level courses, offering international art programs for students passionate about art and design. This pathway helps students successfully apply to top art schools and pursue higher education or careers in the design field.

CIS Curriculum Director:
Dr. Rose-Anne
The Advantages of Alberta’s
Tiered Curriculum
and Diploma Competitiveness
Dr. Rose-Anne, CIS Curriculum Director, brings over 30 years of experience in education from Canada. During the seminar, she highlighted the core strengths of the Alberta curriculum introduced at CIS, focusing on the tiered structure of secondary school courses. Key subjects are divided into different levels (such as Level 1 and 2 courses), allowing students to select based on their abilities and goals. The Level 1 courses are more rigorous, providing strong academic preparation for students aiming for top universities, while the Level 2 courses offer greater flexibility to support diverse learning needs. This tiered structure enables every student to excel on a pathway suited to their individual strengths.
In addition, the Alberta curriculum places a strong emphasis on humanities education, fostering critical thinking, social responsibility, and a global perspective. Dr. Rose-Anne also reiterated that Alberta’s diploma is widely recognized by leading universities worldwide, laying a solid foundation for students' academic and personal success.

Head of CCDA: Ted Sze
Focusing on Art and Design:
Paving the Way to
Global Top Universities
Ted provided a detailed explanation of the academy's curriculum at different stages and its advantages for further education, including art-focused A-Level courses and practice-oriented BTEC programs.
