April 22 – Earth Day

When we talk about Earth Day, what are we really talking about?
It’s about environmental protection, sustainable development, and our relationship with nature. It’s also about rethinking the meaning of community in a time when connection and understanding are more important than ever.

On this day, teachers and students at CIS Kindergarten and Primary School joined hands in a planting activity using recyclable materials.

At the same time, we captured moments of CIS students and teachers from different countries expressing their thoughts on understanding and connection in multiple languages. Connecting through love and kindness is also a way of caring for the Earth.

From a Seed,

to Action for the Earth

Guided by IB PYP Coordinator Michelle and classroom teachers, students tore old newspapers into strips, soaked and kneaded them, and crafted them into “seed balls.” Seeds were then placed inside these balls and set into eco-friendly paper pots.

On the pots, students expressed their creativity freely—oceans, forests, animals, and visions of the future grew alongside the seeds.

After planting, the pots returned to the classrooms, where students could observe their plants’ growth over time. This hands-on experience offered a real sense of recycling, regeneration, and caring for the Earth.

Exploring and Connecting:

Understanding Earth Day

图片

Learning extended into every classroom across Kindergarten and Primary School.

Around the theme of Earth Day, students engaged in inquiry-based learning, exploring topics from oceans and wildlife to plant ecosystems. They built understanding of the relationship between humans and nature through real-world experiences.

In English lessons, students expressed their learning creatively—making Earth-themed headbands and designing artwork inspired by the planet.

Cross-grade activities created meaningful connections, such as Kindergarten K students visiting Grade 3 classrooms to explore ocean protection together.

This is the heart of IB’s approach to learning—learning through inquiry, growing through connection.

At CIS, Earth Day is more than a single event—it is integrated into students’ daily learning and practice. In a multicultural learning environment, students continually expand their understanding of the world and respond to real-life issues with action.

This embodies CIS’s educational mission: “Innovate Today, Lead Tomorrow.” Every authentic learning experience becomes a visible step in students’ growth.

We look forward to more learners joining CIS, starting their own journey of growth here.
