One Day In CIS
2024-09-03
CIS warmly welcomes children aged 1-5 into the Early Childhood Education (ECE) . Our curriculum integrates the FLIGHT program from Alberta's early education, along with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, aiming to provide a growth environment rich in exploration and learning enjoyment.

CIS ensures that every child who comes to our campus experiences a joyful and meaningful time.

Today, let's take a look at how the children at CIS Kindergarten spend their wonderful and fulfilling day:
8:30-9:10
Arrival and Breakfast:
Children arrive at 8:30 AM, where the Head of School greets them at the school entrance every day.

Breakfast is prepared by the school, and the children gather around to enjoy a healthy meal. During this time, teachers guide them in interactive conversations, which not only enhance their language and social skills but also help them ease into the day, setting the tone for a productive learning journey.

9:12-9:52
Phonics & Literacy
During this time, PK1-PK4 children continue with Phonics, using games and interactive activities to build foundational language and literacy skills.

For the K5 students, they engage more deeply in English Language Arts (ELA) or literacy training, making this period crucial for establishing a strong language foundation.

9:52-10:07
Nutrition Break

10:10-11:30
UOI, Outdoor Exploration and Story Time
> UOI, Outdoor Exploration:
PK1-PK4: During this time, children engage in Units of Inquiry (UOI), Outdoor Exploration, and specific themed activities. They develop their physical coordination and musical awareness through Music & Movement or Gross Motor Skills activities.

K5: Children further expand their knowledge and skills through Outdoor Exploration or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) activities.

> Mandarin Learning:
PK2-K5: Children participate in Mandarin classes, focusing primarily on character recognition, pronunciation, and basic writing.

> Story and Language Development:
PK1-PK4: Story Time is an essential part of the curriculum. Children develop their language comprehension and imagination through listening to stories or reading picture books.

It is worth mentioning that in each class, the support teachers frequently clean the toys and teaching materials to ensure that children learn in a safer and more hygienic environment.

11:30-12:10
Lunchtime
This is a time for children to relax and recharge. They enjoy a healthy lunch in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while also continuing to develop their social skills through interaction with their peers.

12:12-13:40
Nap/Quiet Time
After lunch, PK2-PK4 children transition into nap time or quiet time. This period not only helps them regain energy but also provides an opportunity for self-regulation, preparing them for the afternoon’s learning activities.
In addition to nap time, K5 children also participate in outdoor activities.
13:42-15:04
Inquiry and Extended Learning:
After nap time, children continue with their afternoon Units of Inquiry (UOI). They engage in theme-based, interdisciplinary exploration of science, STEAM, music, art, or physical activities, along with ample outdoor playtime. These activities not only enrich their sensory experiences but also teach them cooperation and teamwork through playful learning.

In addition to nap time, K5 children also participate in outdoor activities.

15:05-17:00
Dismissal (Optional Courses):
Children happily conclude a day full of learning and activities. Parents can rest assured that each day at CIS is filled with opportunities for growth and enriching experiences.
After School Activities (ASA)
After the regular classes end, children can choose to participate in various After School Activities (ASA) for 1-2 hours, further exploring their interests and passions. Whether it’s English, outdoor games, artistic creation, or sports, CIS offers a wide range of options, ensuring that every child can find their own source of joy.

At CIS, each day is a learning journey filled with exploration and joy. From the morning smiles that start the day, to the rich curriculum and activities, and onto fulfilling after-school time, children grow freely in a nurturing environment. They not only learn knowledge and skills but also how to collaborate with others, explore the world, and discover themselves. It is through this carefully crafted curriculum and experience that CIS children learn with happiness and grow through exploration!
